SERVICE RECORD

Veteran of the Korean War: Air Force lieutenant, fighter pilot. Once landed a plane on a carrier deck in a typhoon. (Now that's one we'd like to hear more about!)

Served on the ground with General Holt near Seoul and at Cho'san. The Army taught Joe demolition.  After seeing other combat action, he became leader of "Combined Forces Combat Team A."  THE HEAD HUNTERS were a crack team of twelve specially-trained soldiers from various UN Forces.  He received the SILVER STAR for capturing an enemy tank after it cut down his man Stavros as they crossed the river.

He and his men were captured behind enemy lines and sent to a POW camp at Chiang Ju, known bitterly as "The North Korean Boys Town." After ten months Joe led the remaining eight members of his team to a daring escape by tunneling under the wall and blowing the main barricade. Gus Kellor was left behind when they found out he had betrayed them.  Among the survivors was Art Malcolm, who would later become a Los Angeles homicide detective.

WORK, etcetera

After his discharge he attended Western Pacific University on the G.I. Bill, ("A hundred and ten dollars a month and all you could read," ) where he studied Latin and was a star basketball player.  He also was an all-conference running-back and captain of The Silver Ghosts football team (#15).  Joe played Robin Hood in the drama club play. He graduated in 1955.

Worked for Lew Wickersham's INTERTECT Ltd. Detection and Security in the mid-1960s, where he was considered their best man but a rebel.

Slid down a dam sluice in Botany 500 poly-blend slacks. The man—and the slacks—survived!

Ran down—on foot—a private plane taking off, and caught it!

Brought down a full-grown helicopter by tossing a stick up into the rotor!

Dives through closed windows on a regular basis without getting a scratch!

Climbed out of a dungeon tower by scraping finger and toe holds in the mortar with his watch!

Played "chicken" with another private plane on the runway…he was driving a Gasoline Tanker!

Makes second story leaps with ease and always hits his man!

Defused a nerve gas bomb with a dime--just in TIME!

Favorite breakfast: Scrambled eggs and bacon (also known to eat burnt toast!) It’s a long time between Huevos Rancheros. . .

Takes his coffee black, but he has said yes to cream, and Peggy has been seen adding sugar.

Likes milk with his sandwiches and fast food, and lots of mustard

Enjoys "uncracked" crab at Fisherman's Wharf (good way to "loose" a tooth!)

Will eat cop leftovers - spicy fast-food chili "Right on the button!"

Peggy can't get him to eat "soul" food.

Likes Chocolate Ice Cream

Favorite Italian Foods: Linguini with Clam Sauce, the timeless Lasagna at Gino's

Alcoholic content: Favorite is Scotch neat or on-the-rocks. Keeps 12 year-old Scotch in downstairs liquor cabinet for special occasions.

Makes a fiery Molotov cocktail--guaranteed to remove spots from stomach!

Has also been known to imbibe:
